THE MAKING of a movie is a well-known genre of film history in Hollywood. Some like the making of “Gone With The Wind” and the making of “Psycho” have been bestsellers. Little of such writing has been noticed in Indian cinema except for some attempts in Hindi without impact.
For the first time in the history of Tamil cinema this book has created history. Written by the noted journalist Ranimaindhan, it racily narrates the making of the mega box office hit, “Sivaji, the Boss”, the Rajinikanth starrer, directed by Shankar and produced by the house of AVM, from idea to image on-screen.
It tells all about the production with many anecdotes and nuggets of trivia sure to enthuse Rajini’s fans. The book also contains interviews with veteran filmmaker S.P. Muthuraman and a rare interview with the megastar himself.
Well illustrated with a number of photographs, and perhaps for the first time with photos of technicians at every level involved in the picture.
All those connected with the movie and the book deserve to be congratulated for creating this new genre in Tamil cinema history. Modestly priced, this book is a welcome addition to the meagre literature on Tamil cinema.
