BHARATHIYAR AAYVUKKOVAI: Mu. Sayabu Maraikkayar — Compiler; Gangai Puthaka Nilaiyam, 23, Deenadayalu Street, T. Nagar, Chennai-600017. Rs. 250.
THIS WORK is a good collection of 80 papers dealing with issues of different types. The authors have chosen novel topics such as Subramanya Bharati on Dalits, Bharati on Saranagati, Bharati’s secularism and his concept of chastity. All such topics are valuable to researchers and they are enjoyable reading material to general readers.
It is heartening to note that a number of important issues that are relevant to contemporary society are given due place in this volume. The editor has already published four volumes of papers written by different authors and this one has appeared with his special effort. There are three indices appended at the end which will be useful. The contributors belong to various disciplines and they have approached Bharati from their own points of view.
Most of the papers are found to have been written by acclaimed scholars. Hence the volume, in terms of quality and quantity, appears to be rich and useful.
Among the works on Bharati, the present work might reasonably considered quite significant. It is a welcome addition to contemporary literary studies in Tamil.
