VASIREDDY SEETADEVI SAHITHYAM-10: Visalaandhra Publishing House, Bank Street, Vijnana Bhavan, Hyderabad-500 001. Rs. 180.
A PROLIFIC writer, Seetadevi by penning 40 novels and a good number of short stories carved a niche for herself as a committed literary personality. Fearless and forthright in her life, her main endeavour was to project the emergence of a new breed of young women struggling their way through the shackles of age-old discrimination and suppression.
This 10th volume of her collected works includes three novels. Vasundhara mirrors contemporary society where there is degradation of values in every sphere. The protagonist Vasundhara’s life showcases how doubly challenging it is for a girl to either pursue her studies or to live with dignity in keeping with her convictions or to find fulfilment in life. Her language is completely unembellished but incisive at times and charged with such passion that the reader is captivated. Dharmakshetram is a story with the background of a destitute home run by an unscrupulous Swamiji.
Kodallu-koothullu has a much-beaten about subject depicting biased treatment of daughters-in-law. Two of her earlier novels Mattimanishi and Mareechika created great impact on readers.
