V. GOPALAKRISHNA
KAVERAMMANA SANGEETHA KACHERI: Raghavendra Udupi; Pustakanidhi, Near Gavali School, Halladi- Harkadi P.O, Kundapur Taluq. Rs.60.
THIS ANTHOLOGY of 32 satirical essays ridicules the artificial behaviour and changing human values in society. The topics chosen by the author are very simple but highly interesting and most of them are actual experiences of everyday life.
The essays though witty narrations do not produce any kind of loud laughter while reading, only a slight smile flashes on the lips of the reader. Some phrases and clauses frequently used such as “I mean”, “no problem”, and “one minute” and many more as a pause in the course of dialogue or speech have become the topics for some essays. The essays Made in India, Nursery School and Lok Sabha, Mobile phone and, Free, free, free reflect the degradation of human values. The author mocks at the politicians for their unhealthy competition to get key posts in the government. Some essays satirically narrate the exploitation of the consumers in the name of advertisement by reputed industries through the electronic media. The essays depict how the social, political and cultural values in modern society are getting emaciated ironically in the name of civilisation and progress.
