T. R. SESHAIYANGARIN DRAVIDA INDIA: Tamil Version by Ka.Pa. Aravanan; Tamizh Kottam, 2, Munirathinam Street, Ayyavu Colony, Aminjikarai, Chennai-600029. Rs. 150.
IT IS heartening to note that Dravidian India by T.R.Seshaiyangar originally written in English in the beginning of the 20th century has now appeared in Tamil. Ka.Pa.Aravanan has to be congratulated on the accomplishment of this translation. This work consists of four major sections. The first section deals with the ancient Dravidians, the second is an account of the origin of the Dravidians from various points of views. The next one deals with the past achievements and glory of the Dravidians, and the fourth with Tamil language, literature, culture, politics and the religions practised by the Dravidians and the Aryans. After 80 years the concepts, theories and the trends of research in the areas of history, culture and language have changed enormously. It is quite understandable that many of the points can neither be expected to be homogeneous nor consistent. However, Tamil rendering of this kind is most welcome for the advancement of further study in these areas.
