MALAYALAM

Memoirs

B. R. P. BHASKAR

ORMAKALUDE THURUTHIL NINNU…: G. N. Panikkar, Pub. by author, distributed by Prabhath Book House, Thiruvananthapuram. Rs. 220.

G. N. PANIKKAR’S VAST experience as a public relations expert, professor of English and author of 54 published works invests his autobiography with more than ordinary interest. He narrates the story of his life covering a wide spectrum, from a tormented childhood to a contented evening, with equanimity.

Even as he unfolds fond memories of other days, the author provides glimpses of the social and political changes that he witnessed.

Another interesting feature is the reference to the personal experiences which he made use of in his short stories and novels.

Among autobiographies of government officials in Malayalam, Panikkar’s work stands out as one that makes no overt attempt to play up his own role or play down that of others.

After going through the entire account, the reader is unlikely to find any reason to doubt his claim that, although he may not have said the whole truth, he has not said anything but the truth.
