HARIDAASARU HARASIDA EE NAADU: N. Geethacharya, Bengalooru Rural District, Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Chamarajapete, Bengalooru-560018. Rs. 40.
THIS IS a sincere attempt to bring out biographical details and works of a few Haridasas belonging to Bengalooru Rural District of Karnataka.
The author gives useful information about five Haridasas who lived in this area in the 19th and 20th centuries. Ahobaladasa of Channapatna who has contributed to Kannada literature in various forms of poetry occupies a prominent place. Muddu MohanaVithaladasa also popular as Doddaballapurada Dasaru and Raghavendra Dasaru, who has not written much, has done good service by propagating through his disciples. Doddahejjaji of Doddaballapur Taluq has given two devout Haridasas: Shyama Sharma and Narayana Sharma. Some of the Kirtanas of the former are set to dance performance. Some poems with pen-name Vithala Vyasa written by one Doddannacharya of Kalkunte in Hoskote Taluq are considered outstanding in view of the social aspects contained in them. The influence of English and Urdu is a significant feature of their compositions.
Purandaradasa and Kanakadasa, though not much relevant to the title of the book, are given a lot of space.
