TAMIL

Urdu poet

PKR

MAHAKAVI IQBAL: R.P.M. Gani; National Publishers. 2, North Usman Road, I Floor, T. Nagar, Chennai-600017. Rs. 90.

THIS WORK gives a complete picture of the great poet Muhammad Iqbal. The first part neatly presents a biographical account of the poet and also depicts the development of his personality. Iqbal was not only a poet but also a lawyer. He was honoured by the British government with the title, Sir. He visited Chennai in the year 1928 and gave six lectures. He had been loyal to his language, literature, religion and the nation. At the same time he wrote his poems for the entire humanity.

The second part of the book presents the Tamil rendering of his several poems. The third part elaborates his philosophy and describes his concept of “complete man”.

The book gives us an opportunity to know about the great poet who was an Indian during British rule and became a Pakistani after Partition. From the point of view of literature and philosophy it is a welcome addition.
