Short stories

AMBIKA ANANTH

NERUSU MARI KONNI KATHALU: C. Sujatha; Navodaya Publishers, Karl Marx Road, Vijayawada-520002. Rs.50.

THE SHORT and pithy stories by C. Sujatha chronicle largely the problems faced by women. Most of the stories, written in first person, have variety in theme and nuance, seeking solutions to the problems women face in multitudinous ways. With an optimistic vision, the writer shows the brighter side of life, though her characters are deeply stuck in the mire of cut-throat, selfish, material world.

The deft use of satire and irony in the narrative bring out the life situations in a very convincing manner. Without resorting to any grandiose style and bombastic language, the writer succeeds in giving the required punch to her stories.

Stories like Telivi Nerchuko Manasa, Kurise Megham, Neeku Daaham Vesthe and Bandi record the human experiences from a woman’s perspective very effectively. There is a long story, almost a novelette, Nava Tharam, at the end.
