THIS UNPUTDOWNABLE book carries four illuminating assessments. With his flair for the language, the author has built a romantic novel that mirrors a deeply divided society. A vein of rationalism runs through the pages.
The story revolves round the love match between Malathi and Krishnamurthi alias Kicha from different communities. How they fell in love and how the matter leaked out with adverse comments from both sides make an interesting read. Still worse, the hero’s reaction. Though there was a method in his madness, he had transgressed casting aspersions on others. After the drama of elopement, she was trapped in matrimony. He played a cat and mouse game with her in a cramped room where they lived from hand to mouth.
The shattering experience she witnessed when she dashed into his office room was the last straw that broke the camel’s back. She managed to join her parents leaving a parting note behind. When she turned down the request to join him saying that the breakdown would be an enormous liberation for her, he plumbed the depths of despair. High hopes of the mixed marriage had come to nought like castles in the air.
