SAROJINI PREMCHAND

TATTVA DRISHTI-3 — Volumes 1 & 2: Kesavabhotla Venkata Subrhmanya Sastri; 2-2-1109/ 5/6, Bagambarpet, Hyderabad-500013. Rs. 300.

EVERY SERIOUS person at one time or another is faced with these questions — What is the source of this creation? Is there a mystery behind this world? What is the purpose of my life? Is there an unknown hand directing this world? Svetasvathara Upanishad starts with such queries. The author, Subrhmanya Sastri, takes great pains to elucidate the contents of Vedas and the principal Upanishads in these volumes They come as part of a series under the title Thattwadrushti (The vision of reality). The second one (The mystery of creation) is entirely devoted to deliberations on the origin of creation and the formation of the universe. He has extensive knowledge of the subject and so it is not surprising that a galaxy of thinkers, philosophers and scientists from Einstein to Stephen Hawking and Sankara to JK are referred to and the observations of Vivekananda, Oppenheimer, Schrodinger and many others flow freely throughout. To get insights into truth, nature of existence, and absolute happiness, one has to transcend the limits of senses including all the mental processes. There are illuminative interpretations of the Purushasuktam, and the ‘Gayatri’ mantra as also of certain passages from Taithiriyopanishad. The sheer magnitude of Sastri’s work is astounding.
