Stories of emotional values
AMBIKA ANANTH
ANDEV KADHALU: Anday Gopalkrishna Murthy; Vahini Book Trust, 1-9-283, Vidyanagar, Hyderabad-500044. Rs. 150.
ANDAY GOPALA Krishnamurthy’s popularity as a writer was attributable to his scholarship, creativity, humanity, sincerity, felicity of language, and expression. His stories are marked by universal and emotional values.
This collection presents, chronologically, the trajectory of his story-writing career, which started quite early in his life. Those who know the dynamics of story-writing can well appreciate the finesse with which he, as a boy of 13, had written his first story, “Kandaku Leni Durada.” How a writer’s imagination can be applied to bring out the chaos or joys of life is well exemplified in stories like “Manishi Manasu,” “Mosam,” and “Manasuloni Manishi”. No theme seems deliberate or pre-meditated, and the spontaneity shows very clearly in the narrative, creating a deep impression on the reader’s mind.
“Andamyna Tragedy” is an example of serious parody, condemning the evil of caste system. He very cleverly brings in the mythological figures of Brahma and Saraswati to weave a story around the evil of caste discrimination.
“Danda Veyinchukunna Devudu” is the poignant story of an innocent life getting extinguished in a police encounter, definitely not told in a run-of-the-mill manner.
