STHREE UYARANGALILEKKU — Feminine issues: By Seema Goswami; Translated by K. P. Girija; DC Books, DC Kizhakemuri Edam, Good Shephere Street, Kottayam-686001. Rs. 75.
THIS IS a translation of Delhi-based journalist Seema Goswami’s ‘Woman on Top’ that discusses the issues and problems especially of an employed-woman and her commitments in different capacities.
The author dedicates it to her first boss and starts with sharing her experience of her very first interview for job. Goswami seeks to impress upon her folks to be extremely careful to preserve the ‘fire’ of family relationship even under office-induced stressful conditions.
The book reads like a handy guide to working women. What to wear and how; ways of impressing the boss but making sure to keep a safe distance; dating with colleagues; preferred dietary practices; emotional issues – all these and more are discussed.
Goswami urges (female) bosses to be considerate while dealing with subordinates, but always keep the interests of the company as the top priority.
The overall message is that a balance has to be struck between the commitments to office and family. Men too can benefit by reading the book, which has quite a few tips to offer them.
