VANA MOOLIKA VAIBHAVAM: Koppula Hemadri, B-17, Samrat Apartments, Srinagar Colony, Ring Road, Vijayawada- 520008. Rs. 999.

THIS VOLUME on herbal glory is a sequel to the writer’s ‘Encyclopaedia of tribal medicine.’ A renowned researcher-cum author, Hemadri has the distinction of discovering 25 new herbs. His proximity to the tribal people helped in learning the basic elements of this ancient therapy.

As many as 85 herbs find a place in the book. The common names of the herbs, their botanical names, special attributes and curative qualities are described, with beautiful colour pictures of the herbs going to enhance the value of the publication and its appeal to the general reader and the practitioner alike.

To name a few of the herbs:

Carissa Corandas (‘Vaakai’): Its variants cure a host of ailments such as cold and fever.

The alphabetical index in Telugu, with Sanskrit, and Latin equivalents, is reader-friendly. A word of caution: avoid self-medication based on his text; consult a specialist.
