Sensex climbs 261 on strong buying
A RALLY is finally in sight as strong buying support on the back of good fundamentals and an upturn on the Nasdaq pushed up the 30-share Sensex by 261.81 to 4,795.80 points on Wednesday.

SEBI to relax price band in 200 scrips to 12 per cent
THE price band for the top 200 scrips will be relaxed by an additional four per cent from the present eight per cent from May 2.

 Wipro PAT tops Rs 300 crores
WIPRO Ltd has reported a 77 per cent rise in PAT (before non-recurring charges) of Rs. 300 crores on a total income of Rs. 2,312 crores for the year ended March 31, 2000. The PAT in the previous year was Rs. 79.1 crores on a total income of Rs. 1,803.9 c rores.

HLL Q1 net rises 23 % at Rs 263 cr
HINDUSTAN Lever Ltd (HLL) on Wednesday reported a net profit of Rs. 262.61 crores for the first quarter ended March 31, up by 23.4 per cent from the previous corresponding figure of Rs. 212.83 crores.

Tarun Das is new ACC chief -- Pallonji, Ganguly retire
THE Chairman of Associated Cement Companies Ltd (ACC), Mr. Pallonji S. Mistry, and the Vice-Chairman, Dr. S. Ganguly, have retired from the company board. The board has appointed Mr. Tarun Das, Director-General, CII, as the new Chairman.

SEBI told to extend rolling settlement to A group scrips
THE Finance Ministry has written to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) asking it to extend rolling settlement to A group scrips swiftly.

Jalan's tenure extended
THE Reserve Bank of India Governor, Dr. Bimal Jalan, has been granted a two-year extension by the Government. The current three-year tenure of Mr. Jalan would come to an end on November 22.

Wipro ADR proposal cleared
SHAREHOLDERS at Wipro Ltd's EGM today passed an enabling resolution for the company to go in for an ADR/GDR issue,
