Kharif procurement norms announced

NEW DELHI, Sept. 5
THE Department of Food and Public Distribution has announced uniform specification of paddy, rice and coarse grains for procurement during the Kharif Marketing Season 2001-2002.
According to a press release, procurement agencies will procure rice, both raw and parboiled, with moisture content up to a maximum limit of 15 per cent with value cut. There will be no value cut up to 14 per cent. Between 14 per cent and 15 per cent moi
sture, value cut will be applicable at the rate of full value.
Rice stock in sound merchantable condition of good food value, uniform in colour and size of grains, free from moulds, weevils and conforming to PFA standards will be procured for the Central pool.
For paddy procurement, the maximum limit of moisture specified is 18 per cent. The other factors of specification for paddy procurement include a maximum of 3 per cent for damaged, sprouted, weevilled, shrunken and shrivelled grains; 10 per cent for an a
dmixture of lower class grains and 1 per cent each for inorganic and organic matters. Paddy will be classified into grade `A' and common groups.
