Alicia’s key to survival

R‘n’B star Alicia Keys is convinced she’s never done drink or drugs because she came from such a rough neighbourhood where she saw how badly they affected people around her. “I grew up in an area that showed me poignantly that those things are bad. I could see it every day from the moment I was born to being a teenager. I saw that bad things happen to you if you go down that road. I have seen crack addicts, heroin addicts and prostitutes. I have seen it all and it’s not pretty,” she says. “I think that in a lot of ways that definitely made me say ‘I never want that to be my life’ and I want to be very aware and careful of that.”
