Bala’s Naan Kadavul has taken ages. Did you actually grow a beard waiting for the film to take off?

Yeah I did. I had to for the character. First, I took three months off to grow it. And it remained for two years. For the last two years, I have not seen my face. This month, there will be a re-inauguration of my face.

When did you start dubbing for your own films?

Right from Arindhum Ariyamalum. Ullam Ketkume is the only film I hadn’t dubbed myself.

Would you rather be known as an actor or a star? Kamal Hassan or Rajnikant?

I would rather be known as an actor than a star. Kamal or Rajni? Probably a mix of both. It is easy to act when you are a star than try to become a star by acting. You can always learn acting. It’s easier than becoming a star.

Chennai Super Kings or Kolkata Knight Riders?

Definitely Chennai Super Kings.

Name one actor you can’t wait to be linked with.

Katrina Kaif. (laughs) Salman will be coming for me.
