Landing the dream role

Emile Hirsch admits landing the lead role in the cartoon remake of Speed Racer was his dream job because he was obsessed with the cartoon as a kid. The young star, who plays racing driver Speed in the movie, says he never thought he would get his perfect role so early on in his career and he feels very lucky. Emile, 23, says he used to sit glued to the TV when the Japanese cartoon was on at breakfast time. “As a kid I used to always watch ‘Speed Racer’ in the morning with my cereal,” he says. “It was just one of those crazy shows you watch on a sugar rush. The colours and the action and just the sense of adventure are immediately what always appeals to the kid. I loved it — and I still do.”
