Anupama on Cannes Jury
TV personality, author and noted journalist-film reviewer Anupama Chopra is justifiably elated. She has been invited to be a jury member of ‘A Certain Regard’ section at the Cannes Film Festival. Anu says, “The offer came as a surpr
ise to me. It is an honour to be a jury member at Cannes and it is certainly going to be a learning experience.”
Anupama, who is married to producer-director Vinod Chopra, says, “The first thing I did after receiving the offer was call my sister, Tanu (filmmaker Tanuja Chopra) and asked her to take care of my kids. My second call was to my husband who was thrilled and agreed to come with me for the two-week festival.”
Anaitha goes bald
Anaitha Nair, Aaliya of Chak De India fame, loves to experiment with her hair in her films. The carrot-topped sports girl of Chak De has gone bald in Nagesh Kukunoor’s Aashayein. The acto
r who plays a cancer patient sportingly obliged Nagesh Kukunoor when he suggested she shave her head for the role. She says, “I had complete faith in Nagesh. Moreover, I play a cancer patient and have to be true to my character.”
The after-effects of her brave move hit her hard only after she completed the project. She says, “It was difficult to grow my hair back. And I couldn’t audition for any other project for a while because people have set notions about the way an actress should look. Consequently, I wore wigs for a couple of my auditions.”
To Sir With Love
Anupam Kher will now star in a film loosely inspired by the Mitch Albom book, ‘Tuesdays With Morrie’. An animated Anupam says, “It is a brilliant book and I must say Dinesh Raheja (along with Tanveer Bookwala) has adapted the film v
ery well. It’s a fascinating script and we are looking out for a good title.”
Anupam will play a sagacious professor in this simple but sensitive and moving story of life and death.
Another comedy
After the super success of Bheja Fry, Vinay Pathak has moved on to another comedy, Dasvidaniya. The film purportedly tells the story of Amar Kaul, an ordinary member of Mumbai’s ever increasing population,
who wants to stand out amid the faceless millions and sets out to do 10 things to make his life worthwhile before he dies.
Vinay, like his screen persona Amar, also makes a list of things to do every week but it keeps changing. He says, “Right now my biggest wish is Dasvidaniya should be received well.”
Besides Vinay Pathak, the comedy stars Vinay’s buddy Ranvir Shorey, Rajat Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Poorbi Joshi and Gaurav Gera.
Daddy Cool
The Hijack star, Shiney Ahuja, was spotted in a suburban mall in Mumbai recently with his wife and one-year-old daughter Arshiya. He was holding his baby doll in his arms and made an exemplary picture of a doting father. When asked
how life has changed after becoming a father, Shiney said, “It’s very difficult to describe. It just made me a much happier person.”
Shiney has actually taken three months off and cancelled all his shoots just to be with Arshiya.
