The programme celebrates A.R. Rahman’s Oscar victory by presenting songs composed by him. A host of singers will render the songs and also present to him a greeting card signed by all of them.
Sa Ri Ga Ma
(Jaya TV, Sunday, 12 noon)
The music programme, in which three generations of families have been competing, reaches its last round, on March 8.

Women’s Day Special

Makkal TV has lined up some interesting programmes for International Women’s Day (March 8). ‘Penn Idhazhgal Oru Paarvai’ (7 a.m.) takes a critical look at women-centric magazines such as Pennae Nee, Aval Vikatan, Snehidhi and Mangaiyar Malar. ‘Pennmai Potrudhum’ (8.30 a.m.) focusses on poetry and through verse, women pen their views on the importance of femininity. ‘Vaazhthugal,’ a live programme, facilitates viewers to share Women’s Day wishes.
‘Leila’ (2 p.m.), an Iranian film, revolves around a newly-wed girl who doesn’t conceive immediately after marriage and the problems she faces. The other programmes are ‘Kalloori Kondattam’ (celebrations by college girls), and ‘Karuppu Vellai,’ a documentary on the life of women junior artists.
On Vijay TV
Vijay TV has many special programmes lined up for March 8. At 9 a.m., watch ‘Sivakumarin Vaazhkayil Thaai Manaivi Magal’, where actor Sivakumar talks about the three women who have made a big difference in his life and who have been a source of inspiration — his mother, wife and daughter.
Watch actress Pooja relate her experience in films, and also about her latest ‘Naan Kadavul’ in ‘Poojavin Puthiya Mugam’ at 10.30 a.m. At 11 a.m., watch ‘Magalir Mattum’ where the women contestants of ‘Ungalil Yaar Adutha Prabhu Dheva’ and ‘Super Singer 2008’ will perform together. At 12 noon, in Women’s Day Special Koffee with Anu Season 2, catch Anu Haasan relive some jovial moments with women guests on the show.
At 2 p.m., ‘Sigaram Thotta Pengal’ features women who have made a significant contribution in their own special way. At 3 p.m. watch ‘Vettrikku Pinnal’, where Abirami Ramanathan and Anitha Kuppuswamy are the guests.
At 5.30 p.m., watch ‘Maanbumigu Pengal’. This show will reveal yet another side of celebrated career women such as Thilakavathy, IPS, Dr. Kamala Selvaraj and Dr. Shantha. We know them as successful professionals, but know little about their role as mother/sister/wife.
Aachi Thamizh Pechu Engal Muchu Juniors
In its effort to promote Thamizh, Vijay TV came up with a unique concept titled ‘Aachi Thamizh Pechu Engal Moochu,’ a talent hunt for the best Thamizh orator in the State.
Now, the show will target a new age group — children aged between 8 and 15 (Std 6-12). So the hunt is on with ‘Aachi Thamizh Pechu Engal Muchu Juniors’.
After holding auditions in Salem, Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Madurai and Nellai over the past few weeks where 500 juniors participated, auditions will now be held in Chennai. It will take place on March 7, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the SIET College for Women, No.56, K.B.Dasan Road, Teynampet.
