"When I make a film for the youth, it’s bound to be new and bold"
What are you up to these days?
I want to do something new every time. My earlier film Kadavul was well received. Now, Kadal Kathai, produced by J. Satheesh Kumar for J.S.K. Film Corporation, is another bold theme. I have written the story, screenplay and dialogue. While Ilaiyaraaja has scored the music, Velu Raja has directed the film.
But the film has been in the cans for more than two years…
Yes, we had to wait as it ran into problems with the Censors. It has now been cleared after the title and some of the scenes have been changed.
Is the story based on your life?
I don’t deny it. Love and lust are two different things but youngsters are not able to differentiate between them — this is what has been emphasised in the film. I have also highlighted the problems youngsters in love face on account of various socio-cultural prejudices. Any film writer uses his experience to write a script and so have I.
We heard the film has some steamy scenes?
As the basic premise is bold, the film has been granted an ‘A’ certificate. When I make a film for the younger generation, it is bound to be new and bold.
You have also acted in it…
Yes, I have played an important role. Shirly Das is the heroine, while Rathan, Preethy Rangaiyani and Stefi are also in the cast. Selvam, also from the institute, has handled the camera, and Mohan, the editing.
