Love / Hate

Why I like... Iberia

The magnificent blend of poetry and flamenco, the honesty and splendour of the visual structure and the brilliance of the dancers and musicians make this film by Carlos Sauraa a classic for cinema and the performing arts. I also love Sethu, the breakthrough film for Vikram. The role, the pace, the story, the unflinching despair... everything was so raw and convincing that I wrote a note to him telling him that after Al Pacino in Scarface, that was the role I lost sleep over.

Anita Ratnam, Contemporary dance-actor and cultural activist

Why I hate... The Da Vinci Code

I am most disappointed with Ron Howard’s The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons. I am a student of parallel mythology and a specialist in Goddess mythology from ancient cultures. The books were interesting but the movies were reduced to verbal diarrhoea and visual bilge. Lots of cuts, blabber and hit-and-run scenes. The Die Hard and Rambo series were more honest and a lot more entertaining to watch.
