My first break - Sona
I got recognition in Tamil cinema only after the release of Pathukku Pathu and Kuselan
How it happened
I was Miss South India in 2002. I got offers to act in films of different languages. Being an ardent fan of actor Vijay, I was happy when the director of Shahjahan told me that I would be playing the second lead in the film. However, I realised that was not the case after the film was released. I was very upset, though I enjoyed watching Vijay from close quarters. I kept a low profile for nearly a year and a half. Then I did a film in Telugu — Ayudam — with Rajasekhar, which became a hit.
How it felt
Shahjahan left me disappointed; I did not like the way I appeared on the screen. But the Telugu film made up for it. I acted in the remake of the Tamil film Dhool in Telugu, Veede with Ravi Teja. As my Telugu films were successful, I continuously did 19 films. After staying away from the Tamil film industry for more than a year, I did Sivappadikaram for director Karu. Pazhaniyappan. I expected a lot from the film, but it did not click at the box office.
How life changed
I got recognition in Tamil cinema only after the release of Pathukku Pathu and Kuselan. Now I run my business and also continue to act in all the South Indian languages. Till now I have done 38 films. My forthcoming releases are Azhagar Malai and another one with Aswin Shekher, son of S.Ve. Shekher, where I dance to the popular remix number ‘Nila Athu Vanathu Melae’ from Nayagan. I am busy with nearly half a dozen films.
