Frank Falenczyk (Ben Kingsley) is a hit man for his Polish mob family in New York. Because of his drinking problem, he messes up an assignment which puts the family business in jeopardy. So he is sent to San Francisco where he attends AA meetings. There, he falls for Laurel (Tea Leoni), a dangerously spirited woman. Back in New York, a rival gang threatens the family business and Frank is forced to return with Laurel as his unlikely partner.

A respected police officer Chan Kwok Wing (Jackie Chan) meets his match in a vicious group of criminals. When the overly confident Wing leads his teams, the gang, led by Joe (Daniel Wu), wipes out his 10-man squad with expert precision. Stricken with guilt and sorrow, Wing goes into depression. But his new partner Frank (Nicholas Tse) makes it his personal mission to get Wing back on his feet and bring Joe and his gang to justice.
