Alien Vs. Predator: Requeim
(STAR Movies, Friday, 11 p.m.)

In this latest chapter, the battling alien species bring their intergalactic fight to a small Colorado town. With a mutant alien hybrid on the loose, the threat to mankind has never been greater. As the extraterrestrials battle it out, the humans get caught in the crossfire. It’s up to a local sheriff (John Ortiz), a former criminal (Steven Pasquale) and a resourceful Iraq War vet (Reiko Aylesworth) to stop the bloodshed and crush the cosmic invaders.

My Mom’s New Boyfriend
(STAR Movies, Saturday, 9 p.m.)

Henry (Colin Hanks) is a young federal agent who returns home after a three-year stint to find that his mother Mary (Meg Ryan), has changed dramatically, and turning into a party animal. Mary enters into an affair with the mysterious and charming Tommy (Antonio Banderas), a man suspected of being involved in an international art-theft ring. But things get complicated when Henry is assigned to head the case, keeping his mother and her new boyfriend under 24-hour surveillance.

Bangkok Dangerous

Joe (Nicolas Cage) is a ruthless hit man who travels to Bangkok to murder four enemies of his boss. Once there, he forms a relationship with Kong (Shakrit Yamnarm), a young street criminal that he hires to run errands. Over time, Joe becomes a mentor to the youngster. Joe also finds himself falling for a pretty, aurally challenged pharmacist Fion (Charlie Yeung). While Joe welcomes the comfort and security Fion provides, these new relationships could prove dangerous, distracting him from the job he’s been hired to complete.

Because I Said So
(STAR Movies, Sunday, 10.55 a.m.)

Long-divorced Daphne Wilder (Diane Keaton) is a proud mother of three daughters: Maggie (Lauren Graham), a headstrong psychologist, Mae (Piper Perabo), a free-spirited wild child and Milly (Mandy Moore), a clumsy and laidback caterer. To prevent her youngest from choosing the wrong man, Daphne steps in to find Milly the ideal partner. The meddling mother places an online advertisement for her daughter and then arranges to meet the potential suitors. Although Daphne chooses a wealthy, well-dressed architect (Tom Everett Scott), Milly finds herself attracted to a bad-boy rocker (Gabriel Macht). In the end, it comes down to a battle of wills as the mother-daughter dynamics is tested and family ties are stretched to breaking point.

Smother
(STAR Movies, Sunday, 12.55 p.m.)

Nothing is going right for Noah Cooper (Dax Shepard), who has just been fired from his job as sports therapist.

He goes home looking for comfort from his wife Clare (Liv Tyler), but instead finds a house guest, her screenwriter cousin Myron Stubbs (Mike White). Things get much worse, however, when his overbearing mother Marilyn (Diane Keaton) lands on their doorstep needing somewhere to stay. Now Noah has to find a way to manage all his pressures: finding a job, a wife desperately wanting a baby and a mother who won’t quit smothering.

Seibei Iguchi, a low-ranking samurai, leads a life sans glory as a bureaucrat in the mid-12th Century Japan. A widower, he has two daughters and a mother; he must therefore work in the fields and accept piecework to make ends meet. New prospects seem to open up when Tomoe, his long-time love, divorces a brutal husband. However, even as the Japanese feudal system is unravelling, Seibei remains bound by the code of honour of the samurai. The consequences are cruel. The film is directed Yôji Yamada.
