Insults and retaliation
Sangavi
A film by two directors is a rarity - but K. Maheswaran and R. Rosario, who have apprenticed under K. Balachander and Vasanthabalan have come together for Edhuvum Nadakkum, all set to hit the screens early next month.
The film will have Karthik Kumar,
and Aparna Nair from Malayalam cinema
as the lead pair. "I wanted theatre
artists because I had planned to shoot
scenes at a stretch without cuts," says
director Maheswaran, who is also the
producer of Edhuvum .
Karthik and Aparna are basically
from the stage, though they also do
cinema.
"There is this 20-minute scene
where the hero and heroine have to
display a mlange of emotions. And, I
must tell you that both Karthik and
Aparna have done a stupendous job,"
he commends.
"I've been witness to the despicable
way in which some cameramen and
other technicians treat assistant directors
and up-and coming-actors. I've
even seen one of them become mentally
deranged because of the humiliation
heaped on him. It had a terrible impact
on me, and from it was born this story
of a young man driven to the brink by a
woman's slights. His retaliation forms
the crux," says Maheswaran.
Raj, the composer of Edhuvum . is a
professor of music at Sai Academy,
which trains students in sound engineering.
"He gave me five tracks, and I was
fascinated by all of them. I'm confident
that re-recording will be a highpoint of
the film," he says.
