Make the right choice, now
With the scorching summer comes entrance tests, and careers are made or marred for thousands of students preparing to enter the portals of universities for their higher education. All universities in the State have announced their entrance schedules and students preparing now will miss out Andhra University since the last date has come to an end. But, there is nothing to worry, as other top universities will accept applications till mid May while entrance tests are scheduled to commence in May and continue till June.
Central University: The university will conduct its examinations from June 21 to 25 at Hyderabad, Tirupati, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam in the State, apart from Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Guwahati, Madurai and Pune.
The university has introduced new courses in dance choreography, acting and IC technology as part-time courses, apart from the regular courses in humanities and sciences. Notification for M.Phil, M. Tech and Ph.D courses has also been issued. For admission into M.Tech courses, GATE qualification is a must.
The sale of applications will start from April 15 and the last date to submit them is May 20. The application form can also be downloaded from the university's website www.uohyd.ernet.in and sent to the university. However, admissions into the MCA course is based on the rank in AIMCET-2004 and the last date to submit score card is June 30, 2004
Osmania University: The application form along with the information brochure (candidates can register up to four subjects in one application) can be obtained from the Osmania University press or University College for Women, Koti, by paying Rs. 30 in cash. Applications can also be obtained by post from the Director, Osmania University Press, Hyderabad - 500 007 by sending a demand draft for Rs. 30 along with a self-addressed envelope (size 9" x 14") with postal stamps worth Rs. 37 affixed.
The last date of submission of forms was over (April 29). But one can submit till May 6 with a fine of Rs. 100 and till May 10 with a fine of Rs. 300. Filled-in applications, along with a demand draft for the requisite fee should reach the Director, Directorate of Admissions, Near University Press, Osmania University, Hyderabad - 500 007. Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswavidyalayam: Admission into PG courses, except biotechnology, applied microbiology and biochemistry is based on the marks obtained in the degree examination. However, entrance test will be held for the courses on June 13 and the last date to submit application forms is May 29. The test will be held in Tirupati, Vijayawada, Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. The notification has been issued recently in newspapers. Students admitted to biotechnology course will get a stipend of Rs. 800 per month.
For admission into all other courses is based on marks obtained in B.A., B. Com. and B.Sc. and the last date for submission of forms for these courses is June 20. The notification is likely to be issued on May 20.
Sri Venkateswara University: Students can study courses as varied as aquaculture, econometrics, Southeast Asian and Pacific Studies, textiles, clothing and fashion technology, apart from the regular courses. Sale of applications has started and the last date for submission is May 10. However, candidates can apply till May 13 with a late fee of Rs. 135. The entrance tests will be held between June 9 and 16.
Kakatiya University: Some interesting courses offered here include human resource management and tourism management and PG diplomas in clinical biochemistry and sericulture apart from the regular ones. The last date for submitting the application forms is May 15 and tests will be held from June 1.
Sri Krishnadevaraya University: The university offers courses in 39 disciplines, and some unique courses include rural development, social work and adult continuing education and extension, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, instrumentation, polymer science and sericulture. The sale of applications will continue till May 5 and the last date of submission of forms is May 8. The entrance tests will commence on June 7.
Andhra University: The University offers 96 PG programmes and the last date for submission is already over. The entrance tests will be held from May 16.
