What is the difference between "center" and "centre"?

(Francis Xavier, Pudukkottai)

There is no difference. The British spell it "centre" and the Americans spell it "center". There are a number of words which are spelt in this manner. The following words are spelt with an "er" in American English — fibre, sombre, and theatre.
