PG course in Road Technology
INGERSOLL-RAND (India) launched a postgraduate course in `Road Technology' last week to equip civil engineers with the required expertise in a short period of six months.
The venture is an initiative of IR Rasta, the Road Institute of Ingersoll Rand, in association with the Visvesaraya Technological University (VTU). Ingersoll-Rand (India) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ingersoll-Rand Company, U.S.
Ramanath, Dean, IR Rasta, said that in accordance with the MoU with VTU, IR Rasta would impart training in advanced topics of road technology. Ingersoll Rand is the first organisation to be associated with a technical education institution to address the overall need of infrastructure development. Apart from offering training to students, the institute will assist them to get opportunities to work at the road project/site/office during the project work besides arranging campus recruitment for students seeking employment. Balaveera Reddy, VTU Vice-Chancellor, Karnataka, said such courses would help in equipping students with knowledge and soft skills and make them competitive to face challenges.
Jayaraman, vice-president and general manager, Infrastructure Development sector, Ingersoll-Rand, said massive investments in various road infrastructure development projects had resulted in an acute shortage of civil engineers with adequate expertise and experience in the area of highway engineering, road technology and in the modern design, construction and maintenance practices. The first part of the course would consist of regular curriculum, including classroom teaching, laboratory work and field studies using sophisticated equipment. This would be followed by preparations and examinations. The second part of the course would involve project work at the road project sites followed by project evaluation and viva voce.
