Time to apply for ATMA

ATMA is an all-India test that will help candidates gain entry into numerous management institutions in the country.

THE ASSOCIATION of Indian Management Schools (AIMS) has invited applications for a test it conducts for management admissions to 350-odd institutions across the country. Popularly called ATMA (AIMS Test for Management Admissions), the examination will take place on February 6, 2005.

ATMA is one of the three main entrance tests for management education in the country. The other two are the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management and the Management Admission Test (MAT) conducted by the All India Management Association.

The three-and-a-half-hour test is conducted in Chennai, Tiruchi, Kochi, Ranchi, Pune, Patna, Nagpur, Mumbai, Madurai, Lucknow, Kolkata, Kolhapur, Jaipur, Indore, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Goa, Delhi, Chandigarh, Bhubaneswar, Bangalore and Ahmedabad.

Bachelor degree holders and final-year degree students can apply for the test. Application kits will be issued till December 31, 2004, and the last date for submission of applications is January 3, 2005.

How to apply

The application kit, containing a form, information bulletin and a sample test, can be obtained in person or by post on payment of Rs. 700 in cash or by demand draft from the office of ATMA, Association of Indian Management Schools, Plot No. 13, Lalitha Nagar, West Marredpally, Secunderabad 500 026 (Tel: 040- 27702218).

The DD has to be drawn in favour of the Association of Indian Management Schools payable at Hyderabad.

The AIMS is a national network of over 350 member management schools.

It claims to represent the Indian management schools in various national and international forums connected with management education.

The AIMS says that ATMA is a standard test for admission to postgraduate management programmes, including functional, sectoral and computer management offered by different institutes and universities.

Institutes

Among the institutes in South India that consider ATMA scores for their admission are the Department of Management Studies at the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, Indian Business Academy, Bangalore, the Institute of Finance and International Management, Bangalore, the MATS School of Business and Information Technology, Bangalore, and the Ohio-Manipal School of Business, Bangalore.

The institutes in the north include the Asia-Pacific Institute of Management, New Delhi; the Institute of Management Studies, Ghaziabad; the Integrated Academy of Management and Technology, Ghaziabad; the Indian Institute of Rural Management, Jaipur; the Lloyd Institute of Management and Technology, Greater Noida, and NIILM University, New Delhi.

Among the institutes in the east and the central region are the Indian Institute of Science and Management, Ranchi; International Institute of Foreign Trade and Research, Pigdamber; Maharishi Institute of Management, Bhopal; and Xavier Institute of Development Action and Studies, Jabalpur.

In the western region, the institutes that accept ATMA scores are the Apex Institute of Management, Pune; Chh. Shahu Central Institute of Business Education and Research, Kolhapur; Department of Management Science at the University of Pune; Dr. Vikhe Patil Foundation Centre for Management Research and Development, Pune; Indian Institute of Management Training, Pune; Symbiosis Institute of Computer Studies and Research, Pune; and V.P. Institute of Management Studies and Research, Sangli.

AICTE recognition

ATMA is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The objective test is designed to assess the candidates' aptitude for management education, including verbal skills, quantitative skills and analytical reasoning.
