IT'S A competitive world. When it comes to research and development, the need to protect any invention is inevitable.
There comes the need for patenting and protecting intellectual property. To create awareness on these aspects, students of the Department of Food Science and Nutrition of Avinashilingam Deemed University organised a workshop on `Patent Awareness and Intellectual Property Rights.'
The assistant controller of Patents and Designs, R. Devan, from Patent Office, Chennai, explained the concept of patent, design, trademarks, fee details and working procedures to obtain a patent. He also gave information on Patent Convention Treaty.
Pointing out the differences between a patent and an invention, he explained the various avenues through which one could access patent information. Dr. Devan also said that it was necessary for scientists and technologists to patent inventions and stay ahead in the competition. More than 200 delegates attended the workshop.
