Pharma in top form

With State chipping in with 35 per cent of country's total drug manufacture, job scope in pharma industry never had it so good.

NO ONE disputes the fact that the pharma industry has a bright future, especially with Andhra Pradesh becoming the hub of bulk drug manufacturing. Pharma industry in Andhra Pradesh contributes 35 per cent of the total drug manufacture in the country.

Here is where the job potential lies in future. Hundreds of candidates with a minimum qualification like Intermediate are employed as technicians or scientific assistants.

With bulk drug and pharmaceutical industry all set to receive further boost in the State, there is a vast potential of job opportunities and a situation may soon arise where there will be a dearth of qualified candidates too. Realising the need, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University has launched graduation courses in drug sciences.

* Eligibility: Students with Intermediate qualification or plus two or equivalent exam with chemistry as one of the subjects are eligible to apply.

* No. of seats: 50 each at study centres in Hyderabad and Kakinada. Plans are on to open study centres in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Warangal and Tirupati depending on student's response.

* Optional subjects: 1. Chemistry 2. Drug chemistry and 3. Drug technology.

* Last date: The course has already begun, but late admissions can be taken by paying late fee.

* Career options: I. Subrahmanyam, senior consultant, BRAOU, points out that there are openings in packaging, quality control or quality assurance wings of drug manufacturing companies. Possibilities of a freshly recruited becoming a supervisor within 10 years are more. There are also bright chances to get a job as sales representatives of drug companies, as drug sciences graduates are preferred by companies.
