WHY WORRY?: From a cause lost, springs the ladder of hope. So don't quit and keep fighting. --Photo: R. Raju

St. Francis College for Women Nov. 14. How many times did you turn the world upside down, lost hope, gave up your hard work and determination, after you met with a small, insignificant failure?

Then concluded, "I am not fit for any thing" or "I will never clinch the ladder of success". If you felt the same at least once in the journey of life, then you should take a look at the portrait of this great achiever, who is none other than Abraham Lincoln.

Failed in business due to bankruptcy in 1831.

Defeated in the Legislature in 1832.

Failed in business due to bankruptcy once again in 1834.

His beloved fiancé dies in 1835.

Went through a nervous breakdown in 1836.

Defeated in the election in 1838.

Defeated in the US Congress in 1843.

Defeated again in the Congress in 1846.

Suffered a third consecutive defeat in the Congress in 1848.

Defeated in the Senate, 1855.

Defeated for the office of the Vice-President in 1856.

Once again, defeated in the Senate in 1858.

Finally for the first time tastes success when elected President of the US in 1860.

Didn't a famous poet once say:

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,

When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,

When the funds are low and the debts are high,

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest, if you must - But don't you quit."

Remember folks... you cannot fail unless you quit!
