B.Ed exam dates revised
THE SCHEDULE of examination of Bachelor of Education in Acharya Nagarjuna University has been revised. Announcing the dates, the ANU Vice-Chancellor, L. Venugopala Reddy, said B.Ed theory examinations would begin on February 26 and conclude on March 5. The 180 days of academic classes would end on February 26, hence the change in schedule, he said. Practical examinations would be held as per the previous schedule, he noted.
Orchestra by visually challenged
The NSS unit of P.V.P. Siddhartha Institute of Technology conducted a programme through the Sunetra School for the Blind, Hyderabad, recently to raise funds for the relief of the tidal wave victims. The students were entertained for two hours with melodious songs, mimicry and dance. By giving a fabulous performance matching with that of any other talented people, the performers of the Sunetra orchestra had proved that being visually challenged was no hurdle for artistic pursuits. The students were so engrossed that they enjoyed every bit of it. A fund of Rs. 50,000 was raised in aid of the tsunami victims. The NSS unit coordinator, G. Vijaya Kumar, speaking on the occasion, said that the teachers and the students came forward spontaneously to collect contributions. The Principal incharge, Y. Raja Rao, was all praise for the performance of Sunetra orchestra. Earlier, the NSS unit of P.V.P. Siddhartha Institute of Technology organised blood camps with the support of Rotary Red Cross Blood Bank. The college staff agreed to donate a day's salary for the tsunami victims.
B.L. exams from today
THE FIRST semester and fifth semester examinations in the Bachelor of Law three-year and five-year courses will begin on Monday and continue till January 24. J.K.C. College students will take the exams at A.C. College and vice versa; Vijayawada S.U.D. College students at P.B. Siddhartha Law College and vice versa; I.P. Law College, Ongole, students will appear at Ch. Sarma College and vice versa; D.S.R. College, Machilipatnam, students at Noble College and vice versa.

STUDENTS APPEARING at the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission Group II examination need to work hard with self-confidence, the Editor of Telugu employment periodical, Udyoga Sopanam, S.V. Suresh, said. Preparing for competitive examination needed a different kind of approach, he said and added that instead of studying in traditional pattern, students had to look at the question pattern of the past two to three years.
Addressing 80 students at Andhra Pradesh BC Study Circle in Guntur recently, he said students instead of getting nervous about postponement of examination date should take advantage of the additional time and put in hard work. The study circle was training these students for 60 days by inviting resource persons from all faculties.
The study circle director, A. Nagaveera Bhadrachari, said students were being provided free study material and boarding on the campus. The Hindu College political science lecturer, K.S. Lakshmana Rao, was present.

The district-level quiz competitions under the title "Prof. Ramachandra Rao Memorial & ICFAI National College Quiz Competitions - 2005" organised as part of the Vijayawada Book Festival proved to be a bid draw with the degree and engineering students of various colleges in and around the city. Over 35 teams from 25 colleges participated in the innovative quiz, which had special audio-visual and relationship rounds. The team of V.R. Siddhartha Engineering College, Vijayawada, won the championship while the team of Gowtham Degree College in the city stood as runners up. In a press release issued here recently, the Principal of ICFAI National College, Y. Sai Krishna, said that the audience response and participation was excellent. Mr. Krishna appreciated the efforts of organisers -- Y. Kavitha, Barma Suresh Kumar and G. Nagarjuna Rao -- in motivating the ICFAI National College MBA students in conducting the quiz programme.
Creative cream of Loyola
STUDENTS OF the computers department of Andhra Loyola College have made memorable contributions which are published in the annual in-house journal titled "Pixels 2004" at a meeting held on Tuesday. The journal was released by Rev. Johi. The guest of honour was Rev. S. Emmanuel, the head of the department. Coordinator, Bhaskaran, and lecturers -- S.A.B. Nehru, K.B.S. Sastry and A. Lavanya -- coordinated the work. Articles, poems, puzzles and other creative works contributed by students were published in the journal which showcased advancements in the computer technology. Terming it an effective means for acquisition of skills, the Principal of Loyola College, Rev. Peter Raj, appreciated computer department students for their intellectual inquisitiveness to know more and more about latest trends in the ever-expanding world of computers.
The students who made valuable contributions on a range of subjects from client-server systems to WAP-Internet on cell phones were: Sk. Nazeer, T. Mohan Krishna, Mahesh, K. Dilip Kumar, D. Rushendra Kumar, M. Vijaya Babu, D.N. Chandra Mohan, A.V. Subba Rao, K. Kameswari, Ramesh, K. Rajesh, Lakshmi, U. Siva Satya Sai, V.S.N. Krishna and T. Sowjanya. Sk. Nazeer and K. Dilip Kumar were the chief editor and designer for the magazine.
The Principal pointed out that the in-house magazine gave ample indication of the students' agile minds and their alertness.
He added that that initiative they had shown in this endeavour would stand them in good stead in their future academic enterprises. He described it as a commendable work.

"YUVATARANG," THE two-day cultural festival organised by SRR & CVR Government Degree College, ended at a colourful function on January 11. Speaking on the occasion, the college cultural coordinator, Illa Ravi, said the aim of Yuvatarang was to bring out and sharpen latent talent of students. Quiz, essaywriting, elocution, skit, mime, floor-crossing, man-hunt and other competitions were organised. The students took active part in classical and light vocal competitions. The principal of SRR & CVR Government Degree College, R.B. Dikshitulu, took part.
The Principal of Government College, Avanigadda, L. Subha Prasad, who was chief guest, called upon the students to go ahead with self-confidence, hard work and creativity.
Vikas Bhavan coming up
THE ANU Vice-Chancellor, L. Venugopala Reddy, laid the foundation for construction of Vikas Bhavan on the campus at a cost of Rs.22 lakhs. The non-teaching staff contributed Rs.1.45 lakhs for the construction. The Executive Committee member, N. Samuel, the University College Vice-Principal, M.K. Durga Prasad, and Vikas president, Satyala Subba Rao, attended.
The Vice-Chancellor later reviewed the progress of construction of power house, Distance Education Centre, Pariksha Bhavan, and auditorium-cum-seminar hall and discussed on the quality of amenities being provided to the staff.
