For a good memory

Do you blank out when the exam begins? Dont't worry, help is at hand.

Prabhakar... guiding students

YOU WALK into the examination centre and sit for a particular test. And suddenly your mind goes blank. You do not seem to remember anything that you learnt.

This experience may be all-too-familiar, because students tend to base their studies on the rote learning method. They just try to remember a lot of things and pack everything into the brain without actually grasping much of the subject.

But will this really help in the long run?

To help students have better memory of what they learn as well as understand concepts, Rishi Gurukulam has introduced a technique called "100 per cent memory technique" which will enable students to have a good memory of all the things that they learn.

Yoga technique

The technique, which is based on the Siddha Samadhi Yoga, devised by Guru Rishi Prabhakar , aims at helping the student "understand, apply and remember the knowledge forever to make the learning complete."

"A person has two kinds of memory — conscious and sub-conscious. Conscious memory is like the RAM in a computer. It is used for the short term and can get overloaded. Subconscious memory is infinite, like the hard disk. We can remember whole encyclopaedias without effort. The technique trains an individual to encode the information in the subconscious so that it can remain forever."

Through this method, the student is able to understand new knowledge and link it with the already existing knowledge. Normally, it will take around 90 days for a high school or college student to do this. The rest of the year, he/she can review what he has learnt and work on examinations.

The programme has been successfully implemented for the students of Rishi Gurukulam. "A lot of other educational institutions have evinced interest in taking up this memory technique programme in their schools and we are ready to implement it for them."

Summer camp

"Meanwhile, we are conducting summer camps for students of Standard IX, X and XII from April 15 for 60 days on the campus of Rishi Gurukulam at Dodda Maralwadi on the outskirts of Bangalore. Those interested can send their children for the programme," Guru Rishi Prabhakar said.

The Gurukulam had been experimenting with this technique since 1997. Even average students have been trained in the school to give extraordinary results in the last two years.
