Answers in a jiffy
THE PRECEDING week created history in the university education system with the "Jnana Sangam" campus of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, putting in force its decision to conduct the March 2005 annual examinations online for PG students of the campus.
It was thrill rather than apprehension for the students. They also appeared to be more relaxed at the end of their maiden encounter with the online examination on March 28. Many could not believe that they had their results within two minutes of completing the examination. Their answers were evaluated automatically by the computers which also gave out the marks scored instantaneously.
With that, the VTU becomes the first University to conduct online examination for its students in the country, another milestone in its brief span of seven years. The VTU is conducting the online examinations for the first semester "campus students" of MBA and M.Tech and plans to extend the concept to its affiliated engineering colleges offering post-graduate programmes from the next academic year.
