THEIR CONVOCATION caps went high in the air indicating that their careers too would soar high as they graduated from a prestigious school in the country. The elated faces of 273 students of Indian School of Business (ISB) had a similar expression as they received the degrees of management at the fourth convocation ceremony held here on Saturday. It was a day to remember throughout life for the graduates as they had fulfilled a dream nurtured over the years. With placements already done with handsome packages, they could not have asked for more. They have been recruited in globally well-known companies such as Novartis, Microsoft, McKinsey and others. The prestigious ISB Scholar of Excellence Award was given to Tarandeep Singh Ahuja while the top 15 students of the class were presented with ISB merit scholarship awards. Daniel Vasella, chairman and chief executive officer of Novartis AG was the chief guest while Chairman of ISB, Rajat Gupta, and M. Rammohan Rao, Dean of ISB, spoke. The members of ISB governing body, including Anil Ambani, as well as families of students were present.

Agrarian policies

THE NEED for better management of water for agriculture was stressed by the speakers at a seminar on "Emerging Agrarian Policies in A.P.: An Evaluation", organised by the Department of Political Science, Osmania University. L. Jalapathi Rao of N.G. Ranga Agricultural University said the green revolution paved way for more usage of water but it was time to evolve better water management practices. K. Purushotham Reddy, former Head of the department, presided.

TRR gesture

NSS UNIT of TRR College of Engineering conducted an eye camp at Inole village as a part of their community service programme. T. Ram Mohan Reddy, chairman of the institutions, inaugurated the camp and promised to conduct health camps at Inole that has been adopted by the TRR group for socio, economic and educational development. Students participated enthusiastically in the programme. The camp was organised in association with Lions Club, Jubilee Hills, Sankara Netralayam and TRR Institute of Medical Sciences.

Communication skills in English

LACK OF communication skills in English despite good subject knowledge hampers a student's chance to a good career, according to speakers at a university-industry meet, organised by the Commerce Department, Osmania University.

The university Vice-Chancellor, Suleman Siddiqui, explained his experience and how his English knowledge skills acquired later on had an impression on his professional growth.

He said the emphasis was on not just gaining knowledge but expressing the gained knowledge.

H.R. Subramanya, Director, Finance, National Mineral Development Corporation, L.V. Subrahmanyam, Managing Director of AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Limited (APIIC) and Ramesh Datla, Chairman of the CII State chapter, expressed similar views and stressed the importance of communication skills in the globalised economy.

Representatives from 26 various industries participated in the meet.

Fond farewell

AVANTHI PG College organised farewell function for M.Sc (Physics) students where they were made aware of the opportunities available for them in employment as well as research.

J. Arunachalam, Director and Head, National Centre for Compositional Characterisation of Materials, said research opportunities were aplenty for physics students.

M. Srinivasa Rao, chairman of the college, explained the mission and vision of the college.
