Unique for its diversity

A view of the college

A 20-KM drive from Coimbatore on the Madurai-Trichy Road will take you to R.V.S. College of Arts and Science in Sulur. Away from the city, this 14.5-acre campus provides the perfect environment for a studious mind.

The temple like entrance of the college prepares you to experience "value based as well as state- of- the- art education" that the college aims to impart. Part of the Rathinavel Subramaniam Educational Trust, it was started in 1986 as the first self-financing college with 4 courses and 10 teachers. Now, it has 2,000 students under the mentorship of 115 staff members including 35 non-teaching staff. "The uniqueness lies in the diversity of the student population. We have students from Bengal, Orissa, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and even Kashmir, besides from the south and a few from abroad" says the Principal, P. Jeyaram. Students have done the college proud on many occasions.

They have been consistently securing ranks in the Bharathiar University examinations.

While in 2002, 16 students of the college obtained University ranks; 17 did the honours in 2003 and for 2004, the number was 18.

The stall put up by the students at the Health Expo 2004 organised by the Gujarathi Samaj was adjudged the best. In February 2005, a job fair was held on the campus where 14 companies including HDFC Bank, ICICI Credit Cards, Birla Sun Life, Tata AIG, Spur Career Consultants, Mafoi, People One Consultants participated. "About 80 students got job offers," said Abraham Mathew, Placement - Director.
