Rise with the Sun, rise in life
THE VALEDICTORY function of the college union and its affiliated associations of Nirmala College for Women were held on its premises. The college union president, Ranjani Murali of final year Literature, welcomed the gathering. The head of the Department of Transport Management, Victor Louis Anthuvan, from St.Joseph's College, Trichy, presided. He urged the students to work towards betterment of the motherland. Quoting examples from Tamil literature and history, he stressed that women should fight for their rights. An annual report of the union activities was presented.

A NATIONAL-LEVEL symposium `Gimmickry `05' was conducted by the Production Engineering department of Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences (KITS). Nine teams took part. In the quiz programme, six teams participated. A design contest and CNC debugging were conducted. In the project exhibition, students displayed a few vintage and sports bikes. Some of the exhibits by students included `Tangential Reciprocating Mechanism', `Power generation from a speed breaker' and `Universal Spirit Level'.

YOUNG PEOPLE should get into the habit of rising early and making the most of their academic life.
"The sun will rise only in the lives of those who rise with the sun everyday," said the Vice-Chancellor, Bharathiar University, S. Sivasubramanian, while addressing students at the SNMV College of Arts and Science.
"Try to work as a team and appreciate the fact that `team work' works. Convert challenges into opportunities and become masters of the situation. Never forget your parents, your teachers and your native land, wherever life may lead you," he said.

EVERYONE SHOULD work to protect Nature, but in a busy world it was easy to forget this. "Gratitude is a beautiful feeling but it is sad that the modern world has forgotten to thank Nature," said the Managing Trustee, Siruthuli, Vanitha Mohan.
At the Thanksgiving Day address at the Avinashilingam Deemed University, Ms. Mohan also urged the students to find a purpose in their lives, because an aim would work to turn dreams into reality.

EVERGREEN SCENES from William Shakespeare's Macbeth and Twelfth Night and poignant mime shows illustrating themes such as Tsunami, Sacrifice and Deforestation, enthralled the gathering at `Yuvanika 2005', a theatre festival organised by the N. G. M. College at Pollachi.
Among the events were a couple of comedies and a modern tragedy underlining the neglect of elderly parents and the indifference of young people towards the old. Funny mimes poked fun at the emptiness of consumerist culture.

THE 7TH INTER B-School Management Games Contest of the Amrita School of Business ASB PRAGATI-2005 was held recently.
Over 170 students from B-Schools from Bangalore, Chennai, Vishakapatnam, Cochin and Coimbatore participated. ASB student forums in different functional fields such as Human Resources, Marketing, Operations, Systems and Finance designed unique games for the competitive event. An atmosphere of intense competition engulfed the campus with all the games being closely contested.
Industry professionals from TCS, ICICI, Proctor & Gamble, Hindustan Coco-Cola and Sify.com judged various competitive events.
An HR Consultant from Chennai conducted a separate business quiz "BIZ-WIZ". The IITians from Chennai were the overall winners of the fest. GRD, Coimbatore won the first place for Gladiator, a marketing game and PSG followed a close second. In Matrix, a system forum game, GITAM-CMS won the first place and second place was bagged by DJ Academy. In Signs, an HR game, IIT, Madras won the first place and SCMS Cochin won the second. Students of the various B-Schools found that the knowledge gained during the two days was immense and would help them in the long run.
