Question paper CDs from IGNOU

PREVIOUS QUESTION papers act as an effective tool for students preparing for examinations.

These papers provide them with an idea of the nature of questions that can be expected in the examinations. Sensing the immense potential of offering previous test papers for students, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has decided to provide question papers of various academic programmes on CDs. Question papers between 1987 and 2000 have been stored on CDs.

CDs are available at all the 48 regional centres of the university. Question papers on CDs are also available over 1,100 study centres under the university. Learners can contact their respective regional or study centres for getting the CDs.

In addition to the CDs, IGNOU has put the question papers from 1999-2004 on its website.

Students can log on to the university's website www.ignou.ac.in and click on the link "Student Support" on the home page to see the question papers.

The Kochi Regional Director of IGNOU, V. Vasudevan, says that the university has put the previous question papers on CDs as part of its decision to keep pace with the technological developments in the educational sector.

A ready-reckoner

These question papers will also act as a ready-reckoner for students preparing for their examinations. The university has plans to develop newer capacities, particularly in Web-based teaching-learning techniques in the coming months.

The university has stressed the need to use interactive multimedia for revolutionising delivery of education.

The aim is to provide a very rich learning environment and enhanced effectiveness in counselling. IGNOU has also plans to deliver interactive multimedia content in CD format and on the Web. A two-way teleconferencing through EDUSAT would support this content. A wider use of the interactive content developed by the university is expected to ensure cost-effectiveness. University officials also feel that this method will make up for non-availability of high-quality trained teachers.

Dr. Vasudevan says the availability of previous question papers on CDs and website will help the students get a clear picture of the type of questions asked during the last four or five years.

A close scrutiny of the papers will also give them an indication of the pattern of questions.

They can concentrate on some core areas by finding out questions that were repeated every year. The question papers available on the website can be used as a general resource.

CDs will be available on request for students enrolled at various regional and study centres.

Students under the Kochi region (Kerala and Lakshadweep) can contact IGNOU Regional Centre, Kaloor, Kochi, 682017, for more details of the previous question papers (ph: 0484-2340203/2348189).
