Students of CSI Selvabai thavaraj David College for women celebrating the seventh annual day of the college.

TWENTY WOMENself-help group members of Renganathapuram in Bodi were given skill-based training to produce value-added products using fruits and vegetables at the one-day training programme on food processing held at Home Science College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural College, Madurai, on March 21.

The institute conducted the programme in collaboration with Canadian International Development Agency to develop a food processing enterprise.

The theme of the programme was the utilisation of seasonal and cheap commodities such as watermelon and tomato for the production of value-added products.

S. Amutha, course director and associate professor, trained the participants to prepare squash and candy using watermelon and P. Lakshmi, course associate, trained them to prepare mixed fruit jam and tomato pickle.

The preparation of project proposal was also highlighted. S. Parvathi, dean-in-charge, distributed certificates.

SARASWATHI NARAYANAN College conducted an entrepreneurship awareness camp, sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, on March 29 and 30.

In his inaugural address, M. Laxmanan, former Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University, spoke on the importance of entrepreneurship, business process outsourcing and various other opportunities available under biochemical projects.



At the entrepreneurship awareness camp conducted by Saraswathi Naryanan College.

Suresh Kumar, Manager of National Small Scale Industries Corporation, highlighted the central-level financial support offered by the corporation and various schemes implemented by it.

S. Shantha Kumar, Project Manager, District Industries Centre, spoke about the centre's district-level schemes. An interaction session was held.

K.K. Natarajan of the college, and T. Dhanasekeran, Regional Manager, Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporations, spoke.

R. Srinivasan, principal, gave his presidential address. K.R. Sundarajan, head of the Department of Commerce and nodal officer of the camp, proposed a vote of thanks.

THE DEPARTMENT of Sociology of Madurai Kamaraj University organised a seminar on `Designing health communication strategies' in the Chemistry Auditorium, School of Chemistry, MKU, on March 28 for village health nurses of primary health centres in the district.

Inaugurating the seminar, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, P. Maruthamuthu, said, `health is wealth' and that to get this wealth benefits of research conducted on healthcare should reach the common people, particularly villagers. He asked the Sociology Department to involve themselves in extension activities.

B. Nalini, organising secretary, welcomed the gathering and stressed that doctors, community workers and academics should join hands to improve the health of the members of the rural community.

L. Thara Bhai, head of the department, presided over the function. She spoke on the national health policy and stressed the importance of the sociological perspective of health.

S. Kumara Prasad, project officer, Social Welfare Board, delivered the keynote address.

Jeyachandran Gabriel, principal and secretary, SBT College, gave a first-hand account of the facilities available in semi-urban and rural areas and the barriers faced by the rural masses.

Shanthi Gosh, project co-ordinator of TAI Project of RUSS Foundation, and Hemalatha, assistant professor, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, Home Science College, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, spoke.

CSI DARLING Selvabai Thavaraj David College for Women celebrated its seventh annual day at the college on March 13.

The correspondent, S. Gnanajebamani, welcomed the gathering. The Assembly Speaker, K. Kalimuthu, delivered the college day address and felicitated the Bishop of the Diocese of Madurai and Ramnad, Rt.Rev. A. Christopher Asir, for having been conferred a degree by the Indian Theological Research Institute, Chennai.

The principal, Romela Thomas, presented the college day report. Chandrakani Asir distributed prizes.

KLN COLLEGE of Information Technology in association with the Industry Institute Interaction

Committee organised an exhibition titled `Open House Students' Projects, 2005' on March 16 on its premises.

K.N.K. Ganesh, president of KLN Sourashtra College of Engineering Council, inaugurated the expo. Students of all engineering and MCA Departments exhibited models made by them and demonstrated the projects to peer students and parents.
