University cautions students

The Bharathiar University has cautioned students and their parents to strictly verify before admission to the B.Ed. course whether the colleges have got affiliation from the university. Some of the institutions located in the university jurisdiction are offering B.Ed. courses, and students and parents should verify whether these have affiliation, the university's Registrar, C. Subramaniam, said in a press release recently.

The university would not be held responsible for getting admission in unaffiliated institutions, he cautioned.

As on date, the Government College of Education for Women, Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya College of Education, Perianaickenpalayam, Michael Job Memorial College of Education for Women, Irugur (all Coimbatore), and Shivparvathi Mandradiar College of Education, Palayakottai, Erode, are affiliated to the university, Mr. Subramaniam added.

IGNOU goes international

Going international, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) signed agreements with various overseas organisations, including those in China, Mauritius and Dubai, on carrying out distance learning programmes during 2004-05.

The MoUs signed by IGNOU with international organisations include that with Capital Normal University, Beijing, to offer a joint programme in information technology, Mauritius College of Air, Mauritius, and Universal Empire Institute of Technology, Dubai, UAE, according to a spokesman for IGNOU. It signed a cooperation agreement with St. Mary's College, Ethiopia, and an agreement with the University of Fiji to share learning materials in computer education and information technology programmes.

IGNOU also entered into an agreement with Radio Australia to share audio programmes. During the year, IGNOU also signed a number of agreements with organisations and universities in the country, and in all, it signed 21 memoranda for cooperation, the spokesman said.
