A helping hand in the U.S.

Off to the U.S. for the first time and confused? Relax

PROCEDURES: Getting to know the nitty-gritty in a foreign land - AP

STUDENTS AND professionals visiting the U.S. for the first time need not worry about procedural issues such as obtaining a social security number, opening a bank account and enlisting utility services. A Bangalore-based company, TT Enterprises, in association with the U.S.-based AIG International Services, will act as "foster parent," providing all these services in the U.S.

Announcing this in Bangalore, the Managing Director of TT Enterprises, P.Varadan, said that almost all students and many professionals face several problems on landing in the U.S. and they take nearly three to four months to settle down. To overcome the "initial hiccups", TT Enterprises has launched a "Relocation Support Membership" (RSM).

Membership is open to students at $ 230 and for professionals at $ 250 . This one time payment, he said, would cover insurance premium with benefits of a $ 50,000 medical evacuation service, $ 25,000 accidental death and dismemberment coverage and $ 10,000 repatriation of (deceased's) remains coverage. The membership also provides assistance for relocation support services of day-to-day requirements.

The Corporate Adviser of TT Enterprises, L.H. Bhatia, said that over seven lakh Indians visited the U.S. annually and over 50 per cent accounted for extended stay under various categories of visas, including student visa. AIG International Services, he said, has a vendor network for almost all kinds of services across the U.S. Mr. Bhatia said that a member could start applying for a U.S. credit card or begin the process of opening a bank account or commence driving license requirements even before reaching the U.S.

The students and professionals also could get credit for a India driving record. The company also provides relocation solutions designed for short stay visitors up to six months. All benefits are backed by AIG International Services which can be accessed any time anywhere, through a toll-free or collect number.
