M.S. in Medical Laboratory Technology

This course from BITS (Pilani) is conducted in Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai.

A sound knowledge and good skills in Medical Laboratory Technology is a stepping stone to opportunities in the health care industry including in Research and Development. It can also be a springboard for plunging into research in the leading Institutions and universities in various science and technology projects in life sciences. Clinical Laboratory Scientists can find placement in diagnostic health care teams; national and international academic/research institutions involved in basic biomedical research and in `the Research & Development departments of reputed Pharmaceutical companies.

MS-MLT — Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology is a three-year special programme offered by BITS (Pilani) as an off-campus course for eligible graduates in life sciences, conducted at Medical Research Foundation, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. Short-listed candidates take up an entrance examination and an interview for getting admission. Structured classes are conducted for two years in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics and Molecular biology, Hematology, Histopathological techniques as well as in Anatomy, Physiology Blood banking, Epidemiology, Technical Communication and Biostatistics.

In the third year, the students take up research through a one-year internship programme.

Seventy-two research publications have come out from this community of `young scientists' at Sankara Nethralaya in peer reviewed journals.

The institute is recognised for Ph.D programme under BITS (Pilani) and MGR Medical university.

Eligibility

Watch out for the advertisement from BITS in May every year. Undergraduates (B.Sc) in Chemical/Physical/Biological Sciences can apply.

An objective type written entrance examination for short-listed applicants will be conducted in July.
