Placement programme
ENCOURAGED BY good response to its first ever Tamil Nadu State-level placement programme for undergraduate engineering students in its over 200 affiliated colleges, the Anna University has decided to extend it to cover post-graduate students with a target of minimum 10,000 placements during this academic year.
The pioneering initiative, launched by the university in January last, has provided openings for bright students of affiliated colleges to get jobs in top firms, irrespective of their institution's stature or location.
Over 650 engineering students, including many from colleges located in interior and rural areas, have had the distinction of being selected by companies such as Wipro, Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant Technology Solutions and Satyam under the programme.
The programme, a brainchild of the university Vice-Chancellor, E. Balagurusamy, has broken the rural-urban divide and reputed-lesser-known colleges in securing placements. The university has set a target of a minimum of 10,000 placements for the next batch to be held in August. "We are expanding the programme to cover ME, MCA and MBA students from this year," he said.
