Opportunities at Aston

The International Officer of Aston University, Simon Hall, was recently in Chennai to discuss the U.K.-based university's programmes. He answers questions from Dhanya Parthasarathy

on higher study at Aston.

What courses do Indian students take at Aston?

Business, Engineering and Health, in that order. We had about 100 students from India last year. We possibly have fewer students because our entrance requirements are quite high. This year we are looking to recruit approximately 90 students from India. In our experience, students from south India choose postgraduate programmes in Science, and Engineering programmes, and students from the north prefer Commerce.

Tell us about the MBA Programme.

Our MBA is AMBA accredited and the Aston Business School is EQUIS and AACSB accredited. That is to say that it has the stamp of accreditation in USA and Europe. This is a one-year programme for graduates with at least three years of work experience. The course fee is £19,000.

Tell us about scholarships.

Scholarships are offered only at the undergraduate level.

Programmes within the School of Engineering and Applied Science offer an automatic entrance scholarship of £1,500.

But we offer Sandwich courses, which means that a student gets a year of work experience during the graduate programme. This valuable (and often paid) experience makes Aston students even more attractive to potential employers.

And what about jobs?

Our Indian students have been placed in companies like IBM, Shell, Rolls Royce and Xerox.

How often do you visit India?

Three or four times a year to meet with applicants and tell them what we have to offer. For more information, visit aston.ac.uk or contact Mancomp Professional Services, 9, Montieth Lane, Egmore. Phone: 28554339/28555190
