Belgaum techies bag award
DRIVING UP a ghat road after dark needs expertise. Vehicles use fixed headlamps which do not provide sufficient illumination/focus while taking sharp turns. This leads to accidents. The solution: providing headlamps which rotate along with the rotation of the steering.
This innovative idea is the brainchild of the students of Hirasugur Institute of Technology, Nidasoshi, Belgaum district. Their project, titled "Vehicle automation using micro-controller," won the third prize at the Shrushti-2005 fair for engineering colleges held at the BVB College of Engineering in Hubli last month. It bagged the second prize at the "Technovision-2005" held at PDA College of Engineering, Gulbarga.
Dhanwar Dheeraj S., Rupali Shinde and Shouti Kamte of Mechanical Engineering have designed the project under the guidance of Shivanand D. Hirekodi and S.M. Bani, Head of the Department. Under the new system, if the steering is rotating towards the right, the left-hand side headlamp tilts along with it, providing wider illumination and better focus. The students have also provided automatic dipper and digital fuel level display.
