Better seek advice and gain an edge

EAMCET counselling is fast approaching. It's wise to approach seniors to make the right choice.

M.V.S.R. ENGINEERING COLLEGE: Aditya and Jitender are good friends since childhood. Both did their 10+2 from the same college and got almost same ranks in EAMCET. Both pursue engineering, but in different colleges.

In their final year they met again. Aditya looks depressed and Jitender asks him, "What's the problem buddy?"

He says, "Yaar four precious years of life went by and I am going to become an engineer and I still don't know what I know."

The latter, too, confesses that he is facing the same dilemma, but the only source of solace was the on-campus placement. Aditya sighed, "Hmm... at least you have that option."

So, what is the moral of the story?

Many students, those with good ranks in EAMCET too, fail to choose a right college and course at the time of their counselling. The reason behind this may be either lack of awareness or over confidence.

The counselling process is over in a jiffy and many a time people end up regretting their choice later. One should know his/her talents and interests and then make the proper choice. Also, a proper college will make all the difference.

Yes, nowadays, a good college means the one that has campus placements. The faculty is almost same in every college.

I stress on campus placements because it would be difficult for parents to feed you after you complete your engineering and end up with nothing. Don't get angry, it's a fact. Life is not just a cakewalk. Parents always expect their children to stand on their feet after their studies.

What mistake Aditya has done which Jitender hasn't? Aditya went to counselling with his father and ended up choosing a college and course of his dad's choice whereas Jitender had a senior who was already studying in a good engineering college, showing him the direction.

The best option is to consult a good senior of a good college. Many students, especially those from a rural background, commit this mistake of not approaching the right person and later regret.

They just depend on their parents and blindly believe someone who even does not have any idea of the subject.

So guys, don't worry unduly and don' be over confident. Just approach some seniors even if you don't know them.

You would be getting an overwhelming response because a student can understand a student very well.
