WHO CARES FOR MORALS? Today's youth is just lost in entertainment. PHOTO: SAMPATH KUMAR
SRI DURGAMALLESWARA SIDDHARTHA MAHILA KALASALA: Of all human attributes, character plays a significant role. Some are famous for wealth, some for their high position but, a very few for their character.
We know that name and fame can be achieved not by money but by character. That is why character is the "costliest jewel and the noblest of all possessions."
It is the crowning glory of life that has a bearing in every action of us.
However, the present conditions are far from satisfying. Adequate importance is not given to nurturing high ideals and performing good actions. Sadly, ignoring moral values has become a way of life for today's youth who have an important role to play in future.
Cinema to blame
Cinema, to a certain extent, is to be blamed for the sorry state of affairs. Though meant for entertainment, today's cinema has an adverse impact on youth and their behaviour. Things have come to such a pass that if corrective measures are not taken, the day is not far off when youngsters forget the very importance of character.
Youth are not caring to develop their physical, mental and moral faculties. This is a matter that should be looked into as quickly as possible. They should be told that character is life and devoid of it, the real charm of life is lost forever.
For development of our character, it is necessary that one should lead a life of self-discipline and self-control. The second necessary ingredient for character development is to have good thoughts and be ready to perform good deeds. Thirdly, one must be kind, generous and polite.
If we wish to develop character, we must minimise our desires and wants, which are the root cause for all unhappiness. We should perform our duty honestly and faithfully, and remember that success in life depends on right thinking and right action.
